JPG to HEIC Converter
Understanding HEIC encoding and alternative solutions
About Browser-Based HEIC Encoding
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's proprietary image format. While we can easily decode HEIC to other formats, encoding images to HEIC in a web browser presents significant technical challenges:
- Browsers don't natively support HEIC encoding
- Requires large WebAssembly libraries (~2-5MB)
- Complex low-level API integration needed
- Potential performance issues and slow conversion
To maintain a fast, lightweight experience, we've chosen not to implement browser-based HEIC encoding at this time.
